Southland C-9 is seeking applicants for the position of Interventionist for the 2025-2026 academic year. This position would offer interventions and services in both mathematics and reading to elementary students, grades K-5, and consult strategies with teachers for students grade 6 and up.
Qualifications: (1) Must possess valid Missouri teaching certification, having taught for a minimum of five years. (2) Preferred certification in elementary or reading specialist and/or special education (3) Master’s degree preferred.
Reports to: The Building Principal and/or Director of Academics/designee.
Job Goal: To help students develop proficient reading and mathematics skills that will contribute to their academic growth.
Responsibilities: The interventionist will work extensively with students to help them improve specific reading skills such as letter-naming, initial sounds, phoneme segmentation, and comprehension strategies, as well as service students with math deficiencies. The interventionist will address the specific needs of a particular child when regular reading or math classroom instruction is not sufficient. The interventionist will work with the teacher to design methods of learning that are most appropriate for each child, and will be expected to curate intensive learning sessions for students needing additional instruction.
- Consult frequently with classroom teachers on matters relating to reading and/or math instruction using the district’s progress-monitoring instrument as a baseline.
- Design interventions and write lesson plans detailing methods and materials.
- Assist in the evaluation of on-going programs and make recommendations for change.
- Assist teachers and other administrators and/or supervisors in implementing the school reading and mathematics programs.
- Help teachers diagnose reading and/or mathematics strengths and weaknesses and match these skills with appropriate techniques and materials.
- Keep the parents informed as to the purposes and progress of the reading and/or math program.
- Work with support staff and school administrators to facilitate the coordination of the reading and mathematics programs with the total curriculum.
- Consult with curriculum committees studying such topics as textbook selection, vocabulary development, concept development, supplementary materials and the development of study skills.
- Promote interest in reading and mathematics.
- Work with the classroom teacher and district personnel to coordinate reading and/or mathematics instruction designed to meet the individual needs of students.
- Work with the classroom teacher to monitor student progress.
- Teach remedial reading and mathematics as needed.
- Perform other responsibilities as may, from time to time, be assigned by the supervisor.
- Familiar with the RTI process and Tiered Intervention Instruction.
Salary is based on the negotiated agreement.
